Description
This small abstract work grew out of Blossoming, a larger painting inspired by stocks and peonies. Wanting to explore a more abstract way of painting, I divided a sheet of oil paper into twelve sections and painted across the whole surface, allowing each section to become an individual work of art.
Working this way gave me much more freedom, moving away from softer brush marks and using palette knives, scraping, layering and pencil to create texture and movement. The purples, pinks and occasional glimpses of green still have their beginnings in the original flowers, but each finished piece feels very different.
I love that you can still sense where they came from, without necessarily knowing what you’re looking at.
