Description
This oil painting captures a view whilst visiting the Goodwood Art Foundation in Sussex.
I was drawn to the wildflowers and grasses in the foreground and the glimpses of space between the trees beyond. At the time, I was beginning to explore a looser way of working with oils, using thinners alongside brushwork, with small touches of palette knife adding texture in the foreground.
The title came initially from the landscape itself, but over time took on another meaning for me: a reflection on the spaces that can sometimes exist between people, even when they feel close.
