Just as an athlete would enlist a coach to train and support them in their sporting goals, a life coach is there to support, encourage and unlock parts of your life, to make you feel at ease and confident in making changes.
I’m now 44, but my journey to becoming a coach began in my early 20’s, in my first management position. I was struggling to create and maintain boundaries between work and home life, due to nature of the bar industry I was in and a lack of my own management experience.
Although I was probably too young to realise it back then, I guess you could say I was fortunate to have been given the gift of a guardian angel, in the form of a senior manager. One day I was busy venting my frustrations of finding it difficult to separate my work and home life, and he casually suggested that I might find coaching helpful. Little did I know how that conversation would influence my next 20 years, let alone actually becoming a coach myself.
My coach then, who I’m now very lucky to have as a mentor now, has been invaluable to me. Not only during the early stages of my career, but again in my 30’s when I hit, what felt like a personal road block in my life. I was struggling with the pressures of meeting a partner and my declining fertility, the feelings of loneliness and a lack of direction in my life.
Through my coaching journey I have found clarity across so many areas of my life. I now recognise how important balance is to me, as well as the influence my values have on my happiness and the kind of life I want to live.
With the help of coaching I have been able to work through creative blocks, become more aware of my abilities, understand the importance of aligning my values and beliefs with my goals, in order to create a clearer vision for my future.
Coaching has helped me work through professional and personal issues, as well provide me with more tools to support a more fulfilling life.
I have qualified as a life coach, set up my own business and created time and space , and I’m on the journey reframing my thoughts surrounding my creativity, which I’m already seeing positive change from.
Don’t take this just from me, after all, many of the most well known high achievers talk of how influential coaching has been on their lives, for more information on why everyone needs a coach, read on!
