• Acceptance New Year

    Acceptance…..A New Year’s resolution?!

Letting go can mean a lot of different things to people for various reasons, but for me, it’s meant letting go of what could have been in order to focus on the possibilities of the future. The future can be a scary thing when everything seems so uncertain, but when the fog lifts it’s amazing how things which once seem daunting can start to seem exciting. As someone wise once said to me, you sometimes have to shut the door behind you in order to pave a new way forward, a sentiment that sits with me as I start this year. I believe part of letting go comes down to acceptance, something which I…

  • Loneliness – what does it mean to you?

It’s all too easy to have the mindset that loneliness comes down to what type of person you are or what your current situation is, but who does it really affect and why? When I was growing up the most obvious ‘group’ to be affected by loneliness was the elderly. My granddad passed away shortly after I was born, which meant my Nan lived alone for almost 40 years. She was quite isolated living in the countryside having never had passed her driving test, which combined with losing many of her friends as the years progressed left her spending a lot of time by herself. In many ways she was…

  • Taking care of yourself!

As you will know if you read my blog regularly, health and fitness have always played an active part in my life, but have become increasingly important over the last few years. I’ve become more aware of how a healthy mind can influence your overall well-being and how we can support that by what we eat, how we behave and what we do. As someone recently pointed out to me there’s also another important aspect which may get neglected over time and that’s our hearts! This may seem so simple to many of you, but it’s something which I have definitely neglected over recent years due to my tendency to…

  • Sliding doors?!

Sometimes I do think life can be strange, especially if you stop to think about those ‘sliding doors’ moments, which may have taken your life in such a different direction. Does anyone else wonder how much of life is fate and how much of it is based upon a series of decisions, or in some cases the inability to make decisions!? My choice to egg freeze last year and the subsequent decision to start writing this blog has in itself provided many opportunities and given me a new perspective and experiences that otherwise I wouldn’t have had. For example, who would have thought I would have been the main case…

  • It’s Good to Talk!

When I started writing this blog I couldn’t have imagined how therapeutic I would find the process, as well as the continuous reward I feel from the feedback. After reading this recent article by Hilary Wilce on Rachel Kelly’s website I realise I’m not alone in how writing makes me feel. http://rachel-kelly.net/the-amazing-power-of-pen-and-paper-how-writing-can-help-us/ I guess you can say that I’ve taken my approach to life, i.e a problem shared is a problem halved to the next level by sharing it with what is technically the world! Some people may say I’m bonkers for sharing some of the things in my head, after all, we’re not all as open as I think…
