Reconnecting with your talents and passions!

For those of you that aren’t aware, or don’t have any connections to the UK, next month is the annual Brighton Festival and as part of this huge month-long series of events is Artist Open Houses  This year over 1,500 artists and makers will exhibit their work in artists’ homes and studios, and guess what, my home is one of them! I’m so excited to be involved in this amazing event, which I have loved ever since moving to Brighton. Each year when visiting open houses I have always thought how amazing it would be to invite artists to exhibit at my flat, and last year I just thought, what’s stopping you?…

  • Coaching

Psychotherapy, Counselling, Coaching……..supporting your mind not just your body!

Most of us grow up with the understanding that if there’s something physically wrong with us then we can visit our GP for help, so why is it in 2018 that a stigma stills remains around talking about, or asking for help for non-physical problems? Although many non-physical problems may not be immediately life-threatening they can affect our lives so dramatically, so why is it they are treated so very differently? Whether it’s depression, eating disorders, anxiety, PTSD, panic attacks etc, or you simply feel lost and confused about life, talking therapies can be the help many of us need. After many years supporting someone with mental health issues, I think I…

Grief – it can hit us when we least expect it!

The thing is with grief, there seems to be no pattern, rhyme or reason why or when it hits us. In my experience, how we cope with different degrees of grief is dependant on the quality of support we have from those closest to us and how it defines us. Even when we are silent in our grief, that doesn’t mean we’re ok. Sometimes we all need to lift our heads, look around and ask our friends if they’re ok, because often what people portray on the outside isn’t always what they’re feeling. As most of us recognise, grief doesn’t get any easier to cope with as we get older. It…

  • Acceptance New Year

    Acceptance…..A New Year’s resolution?!

Letting go can mean a lot of different things to people for various reasons, but for me, it’s meant letting go of what could have been in order to focus on the possibilities of the future. The future can be a scary thing when everything seems so uncertain, but when the fog lifts it’s amazing how things which once seem daunting can start to seem exciting. As someone wise once said to me, you sometimes have to shut the door behind you in order to pave a new way forward, a sentiment that sits with me as I start this year. I believe part of letting go comes down to acceptance, something which I…

  • Loneliness – what does it mean to you?

It’s all too easy to have the mindset that loneliness comes down to what type of person you are or what your current situation is, but who does it really affect and why? When I was growing up the most obvious ‘group’ to be affected by loneliness was the elderly. My granddad passed away shortly after I was born, which meant my Nan lived alone for almost 40 years. She was quite isolated living in the countryside having never had passed her driving test, which combined with losing many of her friends as the years progressed left her spending a lot of time by herself. In many ways she was…

  • Taking care of yourself!

As you will know if you read my blog regularly, health and fitness have always played an active part in my life, but have become increasingly important over the last few years. I’ve become more aware of how a healthy mind can influence your overall well-being and how we can support that by what we eat, how we behave and what we do. As someone recently pointed out to me there’s also another important aspect which may get neglected over time and that’s our hearts! This may seem so simple to many of you, but it’s something which I have definitely neglected over recent years due to my tendency to…
