    Fertility; A Women’s Choice

For those of you that have followed my blog from the start, you will know the reason I started writing followed my decision almost three a half years ago to freeze my eggs. Something that I have talked about at length, but also something I have tried to move on from……… as much as any women can move on from her own fertility story! Today, at the beginning of National Fertility Awareness Week, the Progress Educational Trust (PET) is launching #ExtendTheLimit, a campaign to extend the 10-year storage limit on eggs frozen for non-medical (media please stop calling this social, there’s nothing social about it!) reasons. The trust states, ‘If…

  • Fields of different shades of grass

Is the grass greener, or is it just a different shade?

With so much media attention on the role of social media on your mental health, I’ve been thinking about how it’s influenced me, particularly how focusing on my own life rather than comparing to others has improved my happiness. Those closest to me would probably agree that I’ve always been quite headstrong and driven in terms of knowing what I want, but if you read my blog or know me personally you will know that the last few years I’ve certainly had more doubts and quite often found myself confused and feeling a bit lost. Society itself has a lot to do with the feelings of uncertainty I’ve experienced, after…

  • International Women's Day

International Women’s Day…… finding our own way in the world!

With it being International Women’s Day I thought this post might be even more on point today when we’re thinking about #PressforProgress! For my parent’s generation, the women’s role was very clear, largely involving being a homemaker, wife and mother. Today, I’m pleased to say this has changed in many parts of the world, and the opportunities available to us are far wider reaching. Sadly some areas of the world are lagging behind in terms of equality and how women are treated. The fact that women have only just been permitted to enter football stadiums in Saudi Arabia seems totally incomprehensible compared to the western world I’m used to. We still seem…

  • Sliding doors?!

Sometimes I do think life can be strange, especially if you stop to think about those ‘sliding doors’ moments, which may have taken your life in such a different direction. Does anyone else wonder how much of life is fate and how much of it is based upon a series of decisions, or in some cases the inability to make decisions!? My choice to egg freeze last year and the subsequent decision to start writing this blog has in itself provided many opportunities and given me a new perspective and experiences that otherwise I wouldn’t have had. For example, who would have thought I would have been the main case…

  • Mindfulness, what does it actually mean for me?

Having just returned from my first ever yoga retreat, ran by the lovely Tanya, I felt compelled to write about mindfulness and what it means to me. Although everyone’s reasons for going on retreats are obviously different, I think the one thing we all had in common was the sense of escaping. Not because I’m making the assumption that people always have something to escape from, but sometimes just being in a different place and focusing on yourself allows you to let go of life outside. I’m sure that can sound like a load of peace, loving, hippy nonsense to anyone that’s never been on a retreat, but it definitely allowed me some much-needed breathing…
